Golden State Warriors' Plan for Open Roster Spot Revealed

Freeing up a roster spot with the trade that sent Cory Joseph to the Indiana Pacers, the Golden State Warriors have the option to bring in a player from the buyout market. While a lot of players became available on Thursday, the Warriors are reportedly in no rush to fill that open spot.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported on Friday that the Warriors plan to take their time when deciding on how to fill this new roster spot, with young guard Lester Quinones being a possible candidate to get promoted from a two-way deal to a standard contract.

"It opens up an extra roster spot for the Warriors, who have the 14th and 15th vacant. Don’t expect them to fill the 15th until the final day of the regular season. Don’t expect them to fill the 14th until after the All-Star break. They can keep it open for two weeks and save a chunk more cash," Slater wrote in this article.

Not only does this plan save the Warriors money, but it also allows the buyout market to fully develop. While there are several players available now, several more may become available before the season ends. By remaining patient, the Warriors give themselves the widest range of options.

This is Golden State's current plan for their final roster spots, per Slater.
