Former Clippers Player Found Guilty on Criminal Charges

Many remember Glen "Big Baby" Davis for his time on the Boston Celtics and LA Clippers, but now he'll be remembered for something a little different. Both Glen Davis and former Piston Will Bynum were convicted by a New York jury in a scheme that defrauded an insurance plan for NBA players by more than $5 million.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams released a statement condemning the players and their crimes, while also reminding citizens that no one is above the law.

“Moments ago, a Manhattan jury convicted former NBA players Ronald Glen Davis and William Bynum of a criminal scheme to defraud the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan," Williams said. "While many of the more than 20 defendants convicted in this case were well-known NBA stars, their conduct was otherwise a typical fraudulent scheme designed to defraud the NBA’s health care plan and net the defendants over $5 million in illicit profits. Today’s conviction exemplifies that despite notoriety or success in sports or any other field, no one is exempt from criminal charges if they engage in fraud.” 

Glen Davis played in the NBA from 2008-2015, while also winning a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. Towards the end of his career, Davis played for Doc Rivers and the Clippers, where he later feuded with Rivers on social media over his tenure. At one point, he even called his coach "overrated".

Both Glen Davis and Will Bynum were convicted on Wednesday, November 17, 2023.
