Finding the right fit for Bol Bol after Magic release

The Orlando Magic released Bol Bol on Tuesday after the fan favorite had a career year. He averaged a career-high in every statistical category, and it was also the first chance he had to have a true role in an NBA rotation, averaging a career-high 21.5 minutes per game, far beyond any other season in his young career.

Bol provided tremendous value to the young Magic team, particularly on the defensive end of the floor. However, the Magic also have the 2022-23 Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero and a rising star in Franz Wagner. With both players being forwards, it was hard to see a true fit for Bol in the Magic's future.

Bol can be an asset to several other teams across the Association, however. One that could use a player like him is Dallas. The Mavericks feature a superstar duo in Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, but they are still looking for a better supporting cast. Defense in particular was an issue for the team in 2022-23. The Mavs ranked 25th in the NBA last season in defensive rating.

The son of former NBA player Manute Bol could be a source of rim protection for the team. His frame and agility allow him to be extremely versatile. He has shown potential as a shooter, and his numbers would likely improve playing alongside skilled playmakers like Doncic and Irving.

Another team that would be a good fit is the Washington Wizards, a team his father played for. It might be a place he would be open to calling home.

The Wizards have officially started their rebuild after trading Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, and they are in need of good, young players to start developing.

Bol is an excellent development project. He has plenty of potential but has yet to fully tap in to it. The Wizards also need a replacement for Porzingis, and Bol has a similar "unicorn" build as Porzingis, so he could fill in that hole for Washington.

Bol will quickly find a new team to play for next season given his skills. He should look for a team that allows him to continue the development he achieved in Orlando.
