Draymond Green on Stephen Curry breaking all-time three-point record: ‘It’s time’

“I think I’ll be just as happy for him to break it as everybody else in this world,” Green said. “It’s time, man.”

Later, Green was asked if the Warriors are forcing the ball to Curry to help the star break the record. The outspoken Green bluntly made it clear that doing so isn’t an earth-shattering strategy.

“I think subconsciously you just want him to get the record,” Green said, via ESPN. “So even if you’re not going into the game saying, ‘I’m going to give Steph the ball every time,’ subconsciously, you want him to get a 3 up. That’s always a good option, so it’s not like you’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole — we play that way anyway where we’re trying to get Steph loose.”

Curry and the Warriors next face the New York Knicks on the road Tuesday night, which means it’s likely he will become the league’s all-time made three-pointers leader under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden, one of the most hallowed courts in the NBA.

“I’m enjoying the moment and now you’re knocking on the doorstep, it’s pretty surreal,” Curry said following Monday’s win. “But just trying to let it happen. It’s one thing I’ve learned these last three games, is keep playing basketball, keep taking shots you think you’ll make and enjoy the experience of it because it’s a long time coming.”

Curry, who will enter Tuesday’s game against the Knicks with 2,972 career three-pointers, was asked if it will come as a relief when he finally breaks the record.

“Hell yeah, because I get the record,” Curry said. “The relief part, I get what he’s saying just in terms of the buildup and not really knowing what game it’s going to be. It’s been awesome — like the home crowd the Portland game [last Wednesday] was amazing even though it didn’t happen. Philly was awesome; every 3 the crowd goes crazy. Every 3 was like that.”

Ticket prices for Tuesday’s game at MSG doubled overnight with the anticipation that Curry will break the record. According to Vivid Seats, per ESPN’s report, tickets went from a $448 average to $895, a 169% increase since Dec. 1.
