Despite Jason Kidd's 'great interview', Thibodeau still the favorite to become Knicks head coach

Despite a 'great interview' , Jason Kidd is unlikely to be chosen as the next head coach of the New York Knicks, as Tom Thibodeau is believed to be the clear favorite of the team.

While 22 teams have been focused on the resumed season in Orlando, the Knicks, who were nowhere near making the playoffs this season, have spent the last five weeks fully locked in on finding the team's next head coach. The leading candidates have been Thibodeau, Kidd, and former Nets coach Kenny Atkinson.

However, it appears that Thibodeau has been the team's preferred candidate since the start of the process and that he has done nothing to dissuade them of that opinion. Thibodeau has not been in the NBA for over a year, as he was dismissed as head coach and president of operations by the Minnesota Timberwolves in early 2019.

Now, it looks like he will be returning to try and bring the lowly Knicks back to NBA relevance. He will have a difficult task ahead of him, as the Knicks have one of the worst rosters in the NBA and will need some massive upgrades to even hope to compete.

As for Kidd, even if he does not land the Knicks' job, he seems like a shoo-in to once again be coaching a team sooner rather than later. Despite a less-than-stellar tenure as the Bucks' coach, Kidd remains a highly-respected figure in NBA circles and his tenure as an assistant coach on the Lakers has only helped that reputation.
