Deni Avdija: ‘Nobody’s feeling sorry’ for struggling Wizards

 “Bad periods, bad times, they don’t last forever. And eventually, you get out of it. We’re patient, and we’ll do whatever it takes to figure it out. Nobody’s feeling sorry for us,” he said, via Paul Terrazzano Jr. of TalkBasket. “Nobody cares about us right now struggling. Nobody cares, honestly, like outside.”

This wasn’t exactly expected to be a banner year in Washington. Just the opposite, as new Wizards head of basketball operations Michael Winger traded away Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis and rebuilt from the ground up.

Now, the leading scorers are the likes of Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole, the latter is already drawing criticism for his shot selection and consistency.

So nobody expected the Wizards to be playoff contenders. But no one probably expected them to look as badly as often as they do during a 2-10 start.

“We’ve got to be better. We’ve got to figure it out. We’ve got to be in the gym,” Avdija said. “We’ve got to work out, understand what our roles are, and really play hard because we’re not as talented as some NBA teams and we’ve got to give something.”
