Cory Joseph Leaves Pistons For Warriors; Contract Details
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Cory Joseph is leaving the Detroit Pistons for the Golden State Warriors, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The veteran is signing a one-year deal with the Dubs.

Joseph appeared in 62 games for the Pistons last season. He averaged 6.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 42.7% from the field, 38.9% from beyond the arc and 79.2% from the free-throw line.

The 31-year-old Joseph has career averages of 7.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists with the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Pistons. He won the 2014 championship with the Spurs over the Miami Heat.

The Warriors are expected to start Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green next season. Golden State acquired Paul from the Washington Wizards in the Jordan Poole trade.

Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists this past season for the Phoenix Suns while shooting 44.0% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 83.1% from the free-throw line. The Suns traded Paul to the Wizards in the Bradley Beal trade.

Along with acquiring Paul, the Warriors re-signed Green to a four-year, $100 million contract this summer. However, Golden State didn’t bring Donte DiVincenzo back. The combo guard signed with the New York Knicks after declining his 2023-24 player option with the Warriors.

The Dubs have won four championships and played in six NBA Finals in the Curry-Thompson-Green era. Golden State lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games, so the team will likely be motivated to go on a title run next season.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is the new general manager of the Warriors. He replaced Bob Myers, who who stepped down from the role.
