Clippers upgrade Norman Powell to questionable Wednesday vs. Suns

The Los Angeles Clippers could have Norman Powell on the court for the first time in nearly two months, and just the fourth time since being acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers in February, when they face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.

The sharpshooter was cleared to participate in practice on Tuesday and head coach Ty Lue, when asked if Powell would make his return before the Play-In Tournament, said "hope so." At 39-40 with just three regular-season games remaining, and trailing the seventh-place Minnesota Timberwolves by 5.5 games (but ahead of the ninth-place New Orleans Pelicans by four contests), the Clippers are locked into the eighth seed heading into the Play-In Tournament.

Los Angeles acquired Powell from Portland as part of a five-player trade two months ago, but he suffered a foot injury one week later. In 40 games with the Trail Blazers before the deal, the 28-year-old had been leading the team in three-point field goal-percentage (40.6%) and was third in points per game at 18.7.

In 43 games between his two teams this season, Powell has averaged career highs in points (18.8), assists (2.2) and minutes per contest (32.9), while posting a .457/.407/.807 shooting line.
