Clippers’ Amir Coffey Arrested For Gun Possession
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Clippers forward Amir Coffey has been arrested for gun possession, according to TMZ Sports. The four-year NBA veteran was arrested on Sunday, July 30 in Los Angeles. Officers pulled over a car Coffey was a passenger in at around 2:30 AM after the car was speeding.

When cops approached the vehicle, they said it smelled like marijuana, so they searched it. Police found a gun and marijuana in the car. Coffey admitted to the cops that the gun was his. The NBA swingman was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a firearm.

Coffey was booked into jail at around 5:05 AM. He was released four hours later on his own recognizance. The Clippers have yet to release a statement on the matter.

The 26-year-old Coffey appeared in 50 games last season. He averaged 3.4 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 38.6% from the field, 27.5% from beyond the arc and 77.8% from the free-throw line. The Clippers won 44 games in the regular season but lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.

Coffey has career NBA averages of 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 181 games with Los Angeles. He signed a three-year, $11 million contract with the Clippers last summer.

The Clippers have been fairly unserious about what they’re willing to give up in order to acquire James Harden from the Philadelphia 76ers, according to NBA reporter Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice. Harden has requested a trade from the Sixers and only wants to get traded to the Clippers. However, Los Angeles and Philadelphia haven’t come close to making a deal.

The Sixers don’t have to honor Harden’s trade request since the 10-time NBA All-Star doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. However, Harden requested trades from both the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets and got his wish, so history shows that he’ll eventually get traded by the Sixers.
