Celtics reportedly interested in trading for Jerami Grant before deadline

The Boston Celtics are a team that is widely expected to make a few moves before the March 25 trade deadline, and according to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Pistons forward Jerami Grant is one player they certainly have their eye on.

Grant makes sense as a trade target for the Celtics, as he is averaging 23.4 points per game in his first season in Detroit, nearly double what he averaged last season with the Denver Nuggets. And the Celtics have been one of the more disappointing teams this season, barely floating above .500 while failing to establish themselves as a legitimate contender in a weak Eastern Conference.

The Celtics do have the traded player exception available due to Gordon Hayward's departure, but the team still would need to do some work in order to afford Grant, as they are currently hard-capped at $138.9 million.

Of course, this is all assuming that the Pistons are even interested in trading away the 26-year-old, as he is only in the first season of the three-year deal he signed with Detroit during the offseason. But while Grant has certainly proven to be the Pistons' top player this year, the team appears to be heading towards a tank and may want to get some draft picks or expiring contracts.
