Video shows last-lap incident involving Carson Hocevar, Austin Cindric and Kaz Grala
Mandatory Credit: Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Austin Cindric got wrecked and turned around on the overtime restart, but NASCAR swallowed the whistle and didn’t throw a caution. With William Byron leading a Hendrick 1-2-3 to the finish, no flag was brought out on the Green-White-Checkered.

Mike Joy and the booth almost called it as a caution. For a brief moment, the FOX broadcast flashed the yellow border on the leaderboard. However, the race stayed green and eventually to the white flag.

Austin Cindric took substantial damage to his car. However, the race continued.

Here is a look at the incident from the No. 10 of Noah Gragson. Carson Hocevar went deep on Kaz Grala and Cindric paid the price.

Here is the scene from Corey LaJoie’s car.

Austin Cindric would go on to finish P23. The caution never came out and William Byron drove on to the win. Kyle Larson was P2 and Chase Elliott finished out the podium sweep P3. Is this going to cause another officiating controversy in the discourse this week?

To NASCAR’s credit, Cindric kept it going after he was bopped around a couple of times. So, it isn’t like he was sitting on the track with cars coming at him. I can’t imagine he didn’t drop debris on the track though.

Austin Cindric didn’t draw the caution, William Byron wins

Without another restart, William Byron was able to drive to the finish line for his third win of the season. While Austin Cindric was hit a couple of times, his car never fully spun around. He kept driving after he was hit. No harm, no foul, right?

NASCAR seems to want to stay out of these finishes. I think they wanted to cut down on the multiple overtime restarts as much as possible. So, they aren’t pulling the trigger on things like jumping restarts or possible cautions.

It does feel like a thing that could have been a caution with 100 laps to go. Instead, it is a no-call and Hendrick Motorsports makes history on their 40th anniversary. Rick Hendrick wasn’t there in person but was more than happy about the win afterward.

Chase Elliott is finally showing speed. Alex Bowman was strong at times during this race. Kyle Larson continues to be Kyle Larson, always in contention. Right now, William Byron is the man at Hendrick and in the Cup Series in general.
