Ryan Newman wins thrilling SRX Series race at Stafford Speedway

How about some good old-fashioned short trackin’? Ryan Newman went out and got the job done again at Stafford Speedway in the SRX Series. This is Newman’s second win in the SRX Series at Stafford. It should set him up well to compete for a championship this year, and he did it over full-time NASCAR talent!

Last week, Ryan Newman couldn’t overcome the Cup Series talent to take the win. Denny Hamlin edged him out by less than a second. However, this weekend it was Newman who outlasted and outdrove the Cup Series full-timers.

While he was oh-so-close a week ago, this week he was out in the win as Daniel Suárez tried to track him down in his awesome Florida Panthers scheme. Marco Andretti finishes third in a backup car to close out the podium.

This race was a ton of fun, and better than last week simply because we saw the full event. Ken Schrader deserves a ton of credit for finishing fourth. Kenny Wallace almost chased down Tony Stewart for sixth. Haillie Deegan picks up eighth place and finished ahead of Kenny Wallace, Brad Keselowski, Paul Tracy, Tony Kanaan, and Ryan Preece.

This one was heartbreak for Preece. Ryan Newman wasn’t going to be the winner until Preece got loose and into the wall. It helps that Kanaan lost brakes and Tracy also suffered mechanical issues.

Ryan Newman wins, hometown hero Ryan Preece falters

It is always fun to see Rocket Man back in victory lane. No matter what series it is, Ryan Newman is a professional and is always going to make things interesting with his style of driving. With Daniel Suárez and others joining the party this week, it was a really good show.

For Ryan Preece, the main event did not go as planned. Leading up to his issue on Lap 65/80, Preece had been nothing but great. He was rock solid in the heats prior to the main. The crowd was of course, behind him to the fullest extent. They had seen it all from Preece on Thursday night, just not the win.

A track that Ryan Preece has raced at for years, Stafford Speedway returned the favor by cheering hard for him. It just wasn’t meant to me this weekend. That doesn’t mean there won’t be more chances in the future.

Short-track racing is alive and well as long as Tony Stewart and his SRX Series have anything to say about it. Ryan Newman gets another win at Stafford in the SRX Series. He’s having a fun year, I think. Between this and his limited Cup Series starts with Rick Ware Racing, who is having a better time than Rocket Man?

Next week is the Motor Mile Speedway on ESPN. The 0.416-mile asphalt track in Fairlawn, Virginia will likely be packed like Stafford was the past two weekends.
