Joey Logano admits he is 'jealous' of Xfinity Series racers
Mikala Compton/Amrican-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

NASCAR introduced the Next-Gen cars in the 2022 season with the main objective of making the racing more fair and closer. By doing it, they made multiple development decisions making the machines a different beasts compared to the Xfinity Cars, where the NASCAR prodigies are learning their trade.

One of the major changes it brought in is the change in throttle time. In the past driver were able to afford more time during the race off of the gas pedal, but now they can’t afford the same due to the car’s built. At the same time the Xfinity Series cars, which uses similar regulations as old Cup cars gives the drivers enough time away from hitting the gas.

Joey Logano, the first champion of the Next-Gen era admitted that he gets jealous of the second-tier drivers having this luxuary. The Team Penske Racing veteran encounter the footages of Xfinity racers’ in car camera’s as he is a broadcaster on Saturdays with Fox Sports most often. Logano seems really missing the off-throttle times.

You know, every time we go to their in-car camera, it always blows my mind to hear how much they’re off the gas…It’s just it’s so different. And every time I hear them out of the gas, I get jealous immediately. I’m like, Oh man, you hear how much you’re out of the gas? Joey Logano said.

Joey Logano recalls Kyle Larson’s statement that proves difference in Xfinity and Cup cars

The two times Cup champion recalled words of fellow champ Kyle Larson on IndyCar that shows the gulf in the Cup and Xfinity cars. Larson, after his IndyCar test for the upcoming Indy 500 debut with Arrow McLaren, pointed out that IndyCar works very similar to the current Cup cars, which has never been the case in the past.

You know, even I was listening to Larson do his media availability up in Indy and he’s talking about the Indy car and he was saying how the next gen car actually drives kind of similar to an Indy car now. And I thought that was the craziest thing I ever heard.

Joey Logano said.

While addressing the situation, Logano is indirectly hinting at the fact that NASCAR now have to find one way or another close the gap between the first and second division cars. It would make the Cup series a nightmare for rookie drivers if they are getting a very differently behaving car with limited practice while coming in with big hopes.
