Chris Buescher ‘not real thrilled’ with Joey Logano after late block, wreck at Atlanta

Coming to the end of Stage 2, battling for position, Joey Logano threw a late block on Chris Buescher and ended up causing a wreck. The two-time NASCAR champion admittedly made a bad move.

Chris Buescher was coming around on the outside and Joey Logano went up the track, and he kept going. Buescher went right into Logano, who hit the wall. Denny Hamlin was a tertiary victim as he raced into the back of Buescher.

All three drivers had cars capable of winning. This effectively ended Logano’s day, and Buescher wasn’t able to find that same speed again. Hamlin was more or less fine, but would later be involved in a more serious incident with Chase Briscoe.

Here is what Buescher had to say to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports after the race.

“We were up there on the top had been up there a handful of laps, was rolling good,” Buescher explained. “We were just there and there wasn’t space and ended up wiping us out. So, yeah it just, I guess it’s a judgment call when it’s close like that.

“I haven’t seen it back yet but from my understanding, it was coming from the bottom all the way across the other two lanes all the way to try to cover the top and it’s just a long way to go. Not real thrilled with that.”

Even though Logano accepted the blame, that isn’t going to help Buescher much. The RFK Racing driver managed to finish P9, but he has to wonder what could have been if he hadn’t been wrecked at the end of Stage 2.

Chris Buescher has quiet start to 2024

Through two races, Buescher has finishes of P18 and P9. While Buescher is a skilled superspeedway racer, he is probably going to be happy to head to Las Vegas. Most of the Cup Series drivers will be happy to be on a “normal” NASCAR track.

Right now, the 17 team is sitting 15th overall in the points standings. That isn’t where they want to be at all. Buescher was a top-10 driver last year. Through two races, he has 49 points total.

Now, there is no reason to panic. Buescher is ahead of multiple playoff drivers from last season. Drivers like Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and others are currently struggling with low-point totals.

One or two strong races, points in both stages, top-10 or top-5 finishes – then you’re right back in it. This is not going to be easy for Chris Buescher or any of the other drivers low in the standings currently. However, it isn’t impossible for a team that earned three wins in five races to end last season.
