Chael Sonnen Says Alex Pereira's Rumored UFC 300 Contract Stipulation Would Be 'Amongst The Most Badass Gangster Moves' He Has Seen
Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Chael Sonnen has weighed in on the recent rumors regarding Alex Pereira turning around to appear at UFC 301.

"Poatan" will headline UFC 300 opposite Jamahal Hill. If the UFC light heavyweight champion can get past "Sweet Dreams" without taking too much damage, he could be looking to headline UFC 301 as well.

That's according to former fighter-turned-analyst Josh Thomson, who recently claimed that the Brazilian has a clause in his contract regarding the stipulation.

Chael Sonnen, in a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, noted that Pereira was seemingly set to headline UFC 301 originally. However, a change of plans led to his fight with Hill being bumped up to UFC 300.

"You find out you need him at 300, you gotta go back to him and go, 'Hey man, we gotta take you out of 301 and we need you at 300,'" Sonnen said. "And he goes, 'Wait a minute, I'll do this 300 thing for you, but if I'm okay, you gotta let me go to 301, come on please, it's so important for me to fight in my hometown.'"

'I Don't Buy That' - Sonnen Doubts Legitimacy Of Pereira's Alleged Contract Clause

During the same video, Sonnen hypothesized how the discussion between "Poatan" and the UFC might have gone.

"It would be something along those lines," Sonnen said. "It would not be a matter of, 'Hey Alex, we got a fight for you at 300.' ... And he goes, 'Alright, you know what? I'm going to do Jamahal, I'm going to fly, I'm gonna be pay-per-view, biggest part of the year, I get participation as a champion, it's my biggest payday I've ever had, but man, you've gotta send me, you gotta let me do 301. I don't care who the opponent is.' ... I don't buy that."

Sonnen questioned the promotion needing the bout for UFC 300 badly enough to humor such an arrangement. However, if it is indeed true, "The Bad Guy" commended Pereira for making a "gangster" move.

"Now I'm only asking these questions, not to go against the report, I'm asking these questions because if that did happen, we need to know. I mean, that would be amongst the most badass gangster moves that I have heard of."

The famed trash-talker went on to explain how it would set Pereira apart from the rest of the pack considering so many fighters aren't keen on such a high level of activity.
