Chael Sonnen has stated that he was taken to a secret location in Miami after having received threats from Jorge Masvidal.

Sonnen is in Miami ahead of the Sean O’Malley vs Marlon Vera bout at UFC 299. At the event, he will work as an analyst with Anthony Smith for the main event. The pair have been at loggerheads ever since Sonnen criticised Masvidal’s career.

Masvidal ended his UFC career with four defeats in a row. Sonnen was also critical of Masvidal’s assault case with Colby Covington, which happened after the former BMF Champion had lost to him. That set up the narrative for the bad blood, with Masvidal vowing to beat him up if he had the chance.

“Chael would be one guy that I would love to break his eye orbital. Just because he’s such a cheating f**k. Like he’s gotten caught with more substances in his body than any other competitor in the history. At one time he had like six or seven different substances in his body for one of his title fights. It’s like you’re a f**king piece of sh*t human being,” Masvidal

Since Masvidal is from Miami, Sonnen admitted he had to take precautions. 

“I’m in Miami, I’m at an undisclosed location and I can’t have anything on the wall, because nobody’s allowed to know where I am. Who made those rules? Those two (security guards) who will be standing at my door all night. Why Chael, are you telling us that you have a blank wall behind you with two security guards who will be staying all night when you are about to go to sleep because you are in Miami? Well, I’ve been threatened by Jorge Masvidal. I am at a separate location than everybody else with two security guards because I’ve been threatened by Jorge Masvidal,” Sonnen

Masvidal’s Return

Masvidal is keen on fighting again after announcing he was no longer retired. He has been linked with fights against Nate Diaz and Justin Gaethje, the current BMF Champion. A boxing bout with Diaz had been mentioned for March, but nothing has been confirmed so far. As for a fight with Gaethje, Masvidal was open to facing him if he beat Max Holloway at UFC 300.

“I’m definitely trying to do some boxing matches. I love MMA, it’s my favorite sport in the whole world. I did it for 20 years, it’ll always be number one to me. But, a chance to do some boxing matches, things like that, I wouldn’t mind breaking facing someone’s face.

“These guys are doing half-assed jobs on these shows. That’s why they aren’t able to go out there and be mean every second of every minute of every round. They’re f**king taking time off, they’re f**king pointing at each other, they’re taking selfies in the f**king ring. When I go in there, it’s only to scrap man,” Masvidal said
