Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman placed on IL with leg infection from recent tattoo

Some new ink will keep New York Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman out of action for a few weeks.

On Saturday, the Yankees placed the left-hander on the 15-day injured list with an infected wound on his left leg from a recent tattoo.

According to manager Aaron Boone, Chapman felt irritation in his leg on Thursday, just a few days after getting the tattoo. Chapman received treatment and antibiotics but couldn't avoid a stint on the IL.

"It's still significant enough," Boone told reporters. "He got a pretty bad infection."

While he can't relate, Boone didn't have an issue with Chapman getting a tattoo during the season.

"It's hard for me. I don't have tattoos. That's a personal choice," Boone said. "This is more of an unfortunate situation that turned into an infection. My focus is on trying to get him right."

Chapman is 2-3 with a 4.70 ERA in 36 appearances for the Yankees this season.
