Yankees' Aaron Boone: 'It's hard to wrap your mind around' Aaron Judge's season

The New York Yankees season continued its second half circling of the drain on Monday night with a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. 

As has been the case for much of the past two-and-a-half months, you can't really blame Aaron Judge for any of it.

He continued his monster season on Monday by hitting his 50th home run of the season, helping him to join a couple of pretty exclusive clubs.

He is now just one of 10 players in Major League Baseball history to reach that milestone two different times, and only the third player to do it as a Yankee (joining Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle). 

It was also noteworthy because he reached that number before the calendar rolls over to September. Only six other players in league history have ever hit 50 home runs in a season before the end of August. His current Yankees teammate, Giancarlo Stanton, was the last player to do it back in 2017. He has been the one constant in the Yankees' lineup this season and is going to be one of the two MVP front-runners along with the Angels' Shohei Ohtani. 

While Judge was mostly dismissive of the milestones after the game, saying it was just a number and that he would have rather had the win, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was a little more impressed.

"It's 50, and it's August," said Boone after the game. 

"It's hard to wrap your mind around just how incredible of a season he's had to this point. The one time they pitch to him he hits it off a rock. It's really special what he's doing."

The big question for Judge now is whether or not he can reach the 60 home run mark and top Roger Maris' single season team record of 61. He is currently on pace for 63 home runs.
