White Sox Lose Elvis Andrus to IL, Activate Romy Gonzalez
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Injuries continue to plague the Chicago White Sox, who have now lost Elvis Andrus to the 10-day injured list due to a strained left oblique. In a corresponding move, the Sox activated Romy Gonzalez from the IL.

Andrus suffered the injury late in Friday’s loss to the Houston Astros. After hitting a ground out in the eighth inning, the veteran infielder was holding his left side while trotting back to the dugout.

In 39 games this season, Andrus owns a .201/.280/.254 slash line with four doubles, one home run, and 13 RBIs. The 34-year-old has appeared in all but one game for the White Sox in 2023.

Gonzalez has been sidelined since May 1 due to right shoulder inflammation. As he returns, he’ll have to pick it up at the plate. In 21 games, Gonzalez is slashing a paltry .139/.139/.194 with one triple and one RBI across 36 plate appearances.

The White Sox will be back in action Saturday against the Houston Astros. First pitch is at 6:15 PM CT and the game will air on FOX.
