The Chicago White Sox received a devastating blow on Friday when Luis Robert Jr. suffered a right hip flexor injury. The star center fielder exited early from a 2-1 loss against the Kansas City Royals and will now go on the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, the White Sox recalled infielder Lenyn Sosa from Triple-A Charlotte.

Bleak Outlook

The White Sox offense has produced very little this young season, scoring just 13 runs through seven games. Luis Robert Jr. has factored in over half of that total with three runs scored and four driven in.

In a rebuilding season with low expectations, Robert Jr. was viewed as one of the team's few bright spots. Now, the White Sox must trudge forward without their best player for the foreseeable future.

"He’s hard to replace," manager Pedro Grifol said of the injury. "You don’t replace a guy like him, but at the same time, next man up. We have to go out and continue to fight and do the things we need to do."

Robert Jr. joins Eloy Jimenez on the shelf as the oft-injured DH is dealing with a left adductor strain.

Below Replacement

While White Sox woes are piling up, baseball is an unrelenting game and the 162-game grind must continue. With Robert Jr. sidelined, Lenyn Sosa joins the big-league club after a short stint with the Charlotte Knights to begin the season.

In six minor-league six games, Sosa slashed .333/.448/.542 with one home run, two doubles, and three RBIs. However, White Sox fans have seen this story before as Sosa's production hasn't translated to the big-league level. The 24-year-old has appeared in 63 MLB games over the past two seasons and owns a rough .186/.209/.376 slash line with seven homers and 15 RBIs.
