White Sox 10, Rockies 5: Lenyn Sosa, Oscar Colas, and strong offense avoid sweep
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

After a rocky weekend, (no pun intended) the Sox came out victorious on Sunday to avoid being swept.

The White Sox attacked first when Andrew Vaughn hit a solo home run to left center field in the second inning, followed by excellent base running from Andrew Benintendi in the third inning to score on a throwing error. The runs stalled from there and the lead was taken from the Sox in the fifth, but the offense woke up again when Zach Remillard doubled scoring Gavin Sheets, putting the Sox within two runs.

Then in a thrilling eighth inning with bases loaded, Yoan Moncada doubled driving in two runs to tie the game. Oscar Colas followed up with a double himself, scoring Vaughn and Moncada to take the lead. To add insurance runs, Lenyn Sosa came off the bench and ripped a three-run, 403-foot home run to left field.

On defense, Dylan Cease threw his best stuff one time through the Rockies’ lineup but began to fall apart in the third inning after giving up a solo home run. Exiting in the fifth inning, he stood at 105 pitches with seven hits and three earned runs.

To add to the chaos of the weekend, Elvis Andrus was ejected in the sixth inning during Luis Robert Jr.’s at-bat. With Tim Anderson out serving his suspension, Zach Remillard filled in at shortstop and Lenyn Sosa entered at second base.

With the win, the White Sox are 49-75 on the season.
