Watch: Cardinals hit four consecutive homers against Phillies

The St. Louis Cardinals started a game against the Philadelphia Phillies by hitting four consecutive home runs for the first time in franchise history.

The first inning home run derby for the Cardinals happened after the first two batters in the order -- Tommy Edman and Brendan Donovan -- were retired. Paul Goldschmidt extended the inning with a single and Nolan Arenado got the Cardinals on the scoreboard with a line drive that barely cleared the wall in left field.

Nolan Gorman made it back-to-back with a no-doubter to right field before Juan Yepez and Dylan Carlson both hit towering blasts to make Cardinals history.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, it was the 11th time in MLB history that a team hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs and the first time since the Chicago White Sox pulled off the feat in 2020.

All four homers came off Phillies starter Kyle Gibson, who recovered from the early shelling to force a flyout from Lars Nootbaar followed by a scoreless second inning.
