Watch: 2024 Louisville Baseball Media Day
USA TODAY Sports

College baseball is just three days away from making its triumphant return.

On Tuesday, the Louisville baseball program held the 2024 edition of their annual Media Day at Jim Patterson Stadium, near the campus of the University of Louisville. The Cardinals are set to begin their upcoming season on Friday, Feb. 16 against Indiana State down in Tampa, Fla., with their home opener slated for Wednesday, Feb. 21 vs. Xavier.

"It's an exciting time of the year," head coach Dan McDonnell said. "Looking forward to kicking off the year, getting ready to play another opponent. Obviously, the schedule opens up with a challenging tournament down in Florida. But as I've said to our coaches, and said to our players, we're not going to win the national championship opening weekend. Let's stick to the process, and let's see what we got."

Louisville is coming off of a season in which they not only missed the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years, but also missed the ACC Tournament for the first time since joining the league. While the Cardinals didn't lose a ton of production from last year's team, they aren't heading into the season with a lot of buzz surrounding them.

Not only is Louisville unranked amongst the six major college baseball preseason polls, they were picked to finish just fifth in the Atlantic Division. The Cardinals, however, were able to secure a preseason All-American nod with left-handed pitcher Sebastian Gongora.
