Two Phillies Prospects Set to Play in MLB Futures Game
USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Phillies prospects Justin Crawford and Mick Abel will represent his team and the National League in the MLB Futures game, set for July 8 in Seattle preceding All-Star Weekend.

Crawford is the Phillies No. 3 overall prospect and one of the Top 100 prospects in baseball. Abel is the team's No. 2 prospect and its second-ranked pitcher behind Andrew Painter.

Crawford was one of the first six players announced for the game. The others were Texas’ Owen White, Boston’s Marcelo Mayer, Seattle’s Jonatan Clase, San Francisco’s Kyle Harrison and Pittsburgh’s Endy Rodríguez.

Abel was announced when the full roster was announced later on Monday.

Both will play for the National League.

Crawford is in just his first full season of organized professional baseball after the Phillies made him their first-round pick last year out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev., at No. 17 overall.

The 19-year-old is playing for the Class-A Clearwater Threshers, where through 46 games he’s slashed .346/.395/.456/.851 with 32 RBI and 35 stolen bases. He has not hit a home run yet this season.

Abel has pitched for Reading all season and is 2-3 with a 4.53 ERA in 12 starts this season, his third in professional baseball. He’s struck out 64 and walked 32.
