The “let’s bring in a bunch of guys and see what happens” train keeps rolling in Toronto.
And according to Fansided’s Robert Murray, the club is bringing in righty Vinny Nittoli, who recently opted out of a contract with the New York Yankees.
The 31-year-old has only thrown one inning in the bigs in his entire career, but has gone on a nice run in the AAA ranks.

As Murray noted, Nattoli has posted a 1.61 ERA with 33 K’s in 28 AAA innings since May. On the year as a whole, he’s posted a 3.44 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP while fanning 10.8 batters per nine innings, all across 36.2 IP. According to FanGraphs, Nittoli is striking out 29.9% of batters while walking just 8.8%.
Will he help? Maybe, who really knows. At the very least, the Jays are rotating another arm into the bullpen and it seems like he might have some stuff that could be usable.
Sergio Romo, meanwhile, cleared waivers after being DFA’d by the Jays and has elected for free agency. The Romo era ended with him throwing 3.2 innings allowing one hit and two earned runs.
So long, friend.
