The Guardians Made A Few Depth Moves
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Guardians have been busy this offseason.

The defending American League Central champs have made a few key moves to strengthen their lineup, signing catcher Mike Zunino and slugger Josh Bell.

This week, the Guardians continued to make moves to improve their team in 2023, signing a few veterans to minor league deals.

The team signed right-hander Touki Toussaint and catcher Cam Gallagher to add to their depth for 2023.

Gallagher has spent his entire career with the Kansas City Royals.

He owns a career .240 batting average.

Toussaint spent the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Angels, appearing in eight games and starting in two of them.

The right-hander went 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA.

Prior to his time with the Angels, Toussaint was once a promising young prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization, having made his MLB debut in 2018.

For his career, the right-hander owns a 10-7 record and a lifetime ERA of 5.34.

Gallagher will likely have a chance to compete for the backup catcher job along with prospect Bo Naylor.

The 29-year-old hit just .214 during the regular season with five RBI and did not hit a home run.

The Guardians won 92 games in 2022 and captured their first AL Central title since 2018.

They took care of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Wild Card Series before matching up with the New York Yankees in the ALDS, where they would ultimately fall short in five games.

But they have been busy this offseason in the free agent market and could still have a few moves left to make before the start of the 2023 season.
