Texas Rangers News 3/23

The Texas Rangers Spring Training ended with a bang, from Yerry Rodriguez’s immaculate 7th inning against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday to the triumphant return of our injured heroes. Roster cuts were made, and others were informed they would break camp with the club. While the Opening Day Roster is not yet official, it is becoming clearer who will make the final cut and who will head to Round Rock.

Injury Updates

Corey Seager

Corey Seager made his first and last appearance during Cactus League play. Corey Seager was out due to surgery following a sports hernia and spent most of the offseason recovering. He began taking ground balls a couple of weeks ago, and when he came away feeling great, he continued through his recovery process. He took live batting practice for the first time on March 18th, 2024. Manager Bruce Bochy and General Manager Chris Young, along with the team’s trainers and physicians, declared him ready to push forward. He appeared on the roster, batting in the number two hole, going 2 for 2 with two singles against the Kansas City Royals. Following the game, Seager stated that he felt good and was not in any pain. Now, they will return to Arlington to begin the regular season. His appearance in this game makes it almost certain that he will be on the Opening Day roster.

Josh Jung

Josh Jung also made his first Cactus League A game appearance alongside Corey Seager. He was sidelined before Spring Training officially began for him when he suffered a low-grade calf strain while taking ground balls on February 16th, 2024. His first B squad game was on March 18th, 2024, prior to which he took live batting practice with Seager. He appeared at the hot corner for today’s game against the Royals, where he went 1 for 2 with a single and a flyout. In an interview following the game, he said his defense was a little rusty but felt awesome. Like Seager, he is now an almost certainty to make the Opening Day roster.
