Royals sign this former All-Star second baseman

The Kansas City Royals’ winter of spending marches on.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Saturday that the Royals have agreed to a deal with veteran infielder Adam Frazier. The 32-year-old Frazier is getting a one-year deal from Kansas City.

Frazier, an All-Star in 2021 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles. He hit .240 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 141 games as Baltimore’s regular starting second baseman. Frazier had also drawn some interest from the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox, among others.

Michael Massey, 25, was Kansas City’s second baseman of choice last year, but Frazier should be an upgrade at the position and a very seasoned one at that. 

Meanwhile, the Royals, who finished a division-worst 56-106 in 2023, have had a nice under-the-radar offseason of strong veteran signings. Prior to the Frazier move, they had already added both arms and bats of note.
