Retiring A's relief pitcher harshly rips owner during retirement announcement

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Trevor May announced his retirement from baseball on Monday and had some incredibly harsh words for team owner John Fisher.

Fisher is in the process of moving the A's to Las Vegas and has become one of the most unpopular and loathed owners in all of professional sports. Not only for his attempt to move the franchise but for the way he has run the team by refusing to pay players and constantly keeping the A's near the bottom of the league's payroll rankings.

May announced his retirement during a Twitch stream and used that as a platform to rip his former team's owner.

"Sell the team, dude. ... Sell it, man,'' he said. "Let someone who actually, like, takes pride in the things they own, own something. There's actually people who give a s--- about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy's money somewhere else, dork. If you're going to be a greedy f---, own it. There's nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras. ... Do what you're going to do, bro. Whatever, you're a billionaire, they exist, you guys have all this power — you shouldn't have any because you haven't earned any of it, but anyway, whatever."

There is no question that May just earned himself a lot of friends among A's and baseball fans alike for the rant.

The reference to taking "mommy and daddy's money" alludes to the fact that Fisher's parents were the founders of Gap.

The 34-year-old May spent just one season with the A's, appearing in 49 games during the 2023 season.

The A's finished with a league-worst 50-112 record.

Prior to joining the A's he also spent time with the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets as part of a nine-year career. He appeared in 356 regular-season games with a 4.24 ERA and 33 saves.
