Report: Angels interested in Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez

The Los Angeles Angels could use a catcher. There's no denying it, and it appears they're targeting one of the better catchers in Major League Baseball.

According to FanSided's Robert Murray, the Angels are targeting Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez. However, it's unclear whether or not the Red Sox would entertain offers for the 30-year-old. Boston's asking price is "said to be very high."

Vazquez has emerged as one of the better hitting catchers in baseball, slashing .283/.344/.457 during the pandemic-shortened season with seven home runs and 23 RBI. He's also a solid defender.

The native of Puerto Rico is one of Boston's most valuable assets. If the Red Sox trade him, they could get some good prospects in return. However, the team only has Kevin Plawecki and Connor Wong on the depth chart behind Vazquez, so dealing him might not be the best idea.

It's unclear if the Angels are willing to pay the high asking price for Vazquez. Right now, their 2021 roster at the position includes Max Stassi, Anthony Bemboom and Kurt Suzuki.
