Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman helped find new Tigers President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris

The Detroit Tigers have themselves a new president of baseball operations in Scott Harris.

Harris is coming over to Detroit after a stint with the San Francisco Giants as general manager under their President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi, who's thought of us as one of the better front office figures in MLB.

Harris also spent time — seven seasons, in fact, under Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer with the Chicago Cubs. Hew as part of the front office that helped finally lead the Cubs to a World series win in 2016.

That's an impressive resume and there's plenty of reason to believe that Harris has what it takes to turn around a Detroit franchise that showed promise but never accomplished much under Al Avila.

Harris' resume speaks for itself, but if that wasn't enough, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic is reporting that Harris apparently got the thumbs up from Detroit hockey legend and the Red Wings' current general manager, Steve Yzerman.

There may be no better endorsement in Detroit right now. Stevie Y, as he's known in Hockeytown, won three Stanley Cups as the Captain for the Red Wings. He joined the front office of the organization after his retirement before becoming the General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lighting — where he won the NHL's General Manager of the Year award in 2015.

Now back with the Red Wings as General Manager, Yzerman has the franchise back on the road to respectability. Perhaps the Red Wings will never be the juggernaut they once were, but Stevie Y is doing everything he can to restore the winged wheel.

Speaking of restoring respectability, that's not Harris' job with the Tigers. Who knows if he'll succeed or not, but Detroit fans have to be feeling pretty good that he apparently got the stamp of approval from "The Captain".
