Rays' Harold Ramirez to be re-evaluated in two weeks following thumb fracture

On Sunday, Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/outfielder Harold Ramirez suffered a fractured thumb against the Baltimore Orioles. The team said he'll be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Ramirez was hit by a pitch from Orioles starter Jordan Lyles in the first inning Sunday. He briefly stayed in the game but was replaced in the second inning by Luke Raley.

Acquired by the Rays in March from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor leaguer Esteban Quiroz, Ramirez was on pace to have the best season of his four-year career.

Through 77 games with the Rays, Ramirez is batting .329/.376/.446 with four home runs and 35 RBI.

Entering play Sunday, Ramirez had registered at least a hit in 13 of his last 15 games. Over that stretch, the 27-year-old batted .400/.438/.567 with 24 hits, seven doubles, a home run and 10 RBI.

"You feel for Harold," Rays manager Kevin Cash said after Sunday's game. "He cares a lot - he's just really frustrated by it. He might have been putting together his best season. Hope to have him back, and hopefully he's a quick healer."

Ramirez is the second Tampa Bay player in as many days to go down after a hit-by-pitch. Infielder Yandy Diaz sat out Sunday's game after being hit in the forearm by a sinker from Baltimore's Jorge Lopez the day prior. After the game, Cash said Diaz "should be okay."

Diaz is batting .294/.407/.390 with three home runs and 26 RBI in 83 games this season.
