Perry Minasian Doubles Down on Defense of Controversial Angels Star Anthony Rendon
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels are coming off another disappointing 2023 season. It was filled with injuries by many of their star players, including third baseman Anthony Rendon

Rendon has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons this offseason, from comments about shortening the MLB season to baseball not being his top priority. Rendon has been at the center of criticism from fans and former teammates, but the Angels' front office and coaching staff have his back.

Angels' new manager, Ron Washington, recently came to his defense, and so has general manager Perry Minasian. Noah Camras from Halos Today spoke to Minasian, and he said Rendon is putting in the necessary work to be healthy and play his best this upcoming season.

“Anthony, he’s somebody that puts in the work. He wants to perform. He’s had a couple tough years. Just hasn’t been able to stay healthy. We’ve seen players go through that in the past. He’s coming in great shape. He’s in a good place, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does this year.”

Since joining the Angels in the 2019-20 offseason, Rendon has missed 346 out of a potential 546 games. That means he's only played in 36 percent of games since 2020.

His absence has been part of the Angels' lack of success. However, Minasian sounds optimistic about the 34-year-old's health this upcoming season. Hopefully, Rendon can prove his GM right.
