"Not sure how close he is to getting back". - Pedro Grifol
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada has been on the IL with back soreness over the last week. After taking it day by day, the team ultimately placed him on the IL retroactive to April 11.
Prior to Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol addressed Moncada's current status.
According to Grifol, Moncada is making improvements, but the White Sox manager is unsure of how close he is to making his way back into the lineup. With that said, it doesn't sound like Moncada will be activated off of the IL once eligible to return on April 21. In fact, the uninspiring response further clouds the timeline regarding Moncada's return.
It is worth noting that Jake Burger has been filling in nicely during Moncada's absence. The former first-round draft pick has homered in three consecutive games and currently finds himself in second on the White Sox home run leaderboard with four home runs in only eight games played so far this season with the big league club.
