No. 300: Andrew McCutchen Hits Milestone Home Run
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Andrew McCutchen has finally checked off another major milestone in his storied career.

Facing the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday afternoon, McCutchen belted a two-run shot to left field in the ninth inning off of Ricardo Pinto for the 300th home run in his career. He becomes the 160th player all-time to hit that many.

McCutchen’s 300th home run took longer than he would have liked to reach. Home run No. 299 came on Aug. 22, but McCutchen missed the end of last season after suffering a partially torn left Achilles tendon on Sep. 4.

McCutchen becomes one of 11 active players with 300 career homers. Giancarlo Stanton leads the active list with 406 blasts and is followed by Mike Trout, who has 374. Former teammate Carlos Santana, who played for the Pirates last season, hit his 300th homer last season after he was dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers.

With his milestone blast, McCutchen is one of 13 players in history with at least 2,000 hits, 400 doubles, 45 triples, 300 home runs and 200 stolen bases. He crossed both the 2,000 hits and 400 doubles thresholds last season.

Of his 300 career home runs, 216 have come while with the Pittsburgh Pirates. That’s fourth on the franchise all-time list behind Willie Stargell (475) Ralph Kiner (301) and Roberto Clemente (240).

McCutchen recorded 47 home runs while with the Phillies, 17 with the Milwaukee Brewers, 15 with the San Francisco Giants and five with the New York Yankees.

McCutchen’s legacy with the Pirates continues to grow. The Pirates’ 2005 first-round draft pick was the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player, has been an All-Star five times, has four Silver Sluggers, one Gold Glove and was the recipient of the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award.
