Next Man Up!: The Mentality That Wins Championships
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers clubhouse, a beacon of resilience, upholds the ‘next man up’ mentality when an injury occurs. This unwavering spirit was on full display in the World Series when not one but two major players were forced out of the game with season-ending injuries during Game 3 of the 2023 Fall Classic. Now, it’s time for this indomitable spirit to rise again. Young superstar Josh Jung was struck on his right forearm by a pitch dealt by Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Phil Maton (who also struck two other batters in the same inning). The Rangers manager, Bruce Bochy, informed the media following the game that x-rays came back to show a fractured wrist. In a live broadcast with 105.3 the Fan, Bochy said they are estimating around six weeks for recovery time for Jung. At this time the club has announced that Josh Jung will be placed on the 10-day Injured List.

Who Will Be The Next Man Up?

Justin Foscue

Amidst this challenging situation, the spotlight turns to the Rangers’ #5 prospect, Justin Foscue, who is anticipated to make his Major League Debut in the near future. He was recalled from AAA Round Rock as of April 2, 2024, according to a tweet from the Texas Rangers PR account. He will don the number 56 for his debut. Foscue, the Rangers’ first-round pick in the 2020 MLB Amateur Draft out of Mississippi State University, has shown promise during Spring Training, going 12-48 with six runs, four doubles, one home run, six RBIs, two walks, and 14 strikeouts. During the 2023 season with the Round Rock Express, Foscue had a slash line of .266/.394/.468 across 122 appearances, with 94 runs, 123 hits, 31 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, 84 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, 85 walks, and 70 strikeouts. Currently, in Round Rock, he is slashing a .231/.333/.231 across the three games, with one run, three hits, two RBIs, two walks, and four strikeouts.
