Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals on Tuesday announced the signings of free-agent pitcher Dylan Floro and third baseman Nick Senzel, the second overall pick of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft.

In another move, the Nationals designated Jeter Downs for assignment to get to 40 players on the 40-man roster.

Senzel, 28, had spent his entire career with the Cincinnati organization until the Reds did not tender him a contract in November. The one-year contract with the Nationals has been reported to be worth $2 million plus up to $1 million in incentives.

Last season, he batted .236 with a .399 slugging percentage, .297 on-base percentage, career-high 13 home runs and a career-high-matching 42 RBIs in 104 games. He played all three outfield positions, second base, third base and designated hitter for the Reds, and he is expected to man third for the Nationals.

In five MLB seasons, Senzel is batting .239 with 33 home runs and 125 RBIs over 1,230 at-bats in 377 games.

Right-hander Floro, who turns 33 on Dec. 27, pitched last season for the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins. He was a combined 5-6 with a 4.76 ERA, 17 walks and 58 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings.

Floro is 26-22 in his career with a 3.42 ERA, 32 saves, 105 walks and 307 strikeouts in 334 innings over 330 relief appearances in eight MLB seasons. He has played for the Tampa Bay Rays (2016), Chicago Cubs (2017), Reds (2018), Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-20), Marlins (2021-23) and Twins (2023).

Downs, 25, appeared in six games last season and batted 2-for-5 with four runs.
