Miguel Sano Set For Surgery On Thursday

Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano is set to undergo surgery on a torn meniscus on Thursday.

The Twins’ slugger initially suffered the injury celebrating a crazy walk-off win against the Detroit Tigers last Tuesday.

He was out of the lineup for three games before returning last Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

However, a flareup occurred and caused the Twins to have to remove Sano from the ballgame.

Sano was placed on the 10-day injured list as a result.

Now today, he is undergoing surgery to repair his knee injury.

Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli did not give a specific timetable for Sano’s return.

Any time without Sano is bad news for the Twins, who are playing great baseball as of now, leading the American League Central division by 3.5 games over the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians.

They do still own a 15-10 record as well and are playing at a .600-win percentage.

The 28-year-old Sano is off to a bad start in 2022, hitting just .093 with one home run and three RBIs in his first 54 at-bats of the season.

Again, there is no set timetable for Sano’s eventual return, but the Twins are going to be without one of their key contributors for some time.

Jose Miranda figures to be the everyday first baseman while Sano is out.

Miranda is hitting .077 with no home runs and just one RBI to start the 2022 season.

Depending on how long Sano is out, we may see them try to go out and make a trade for a first baseman to fill the hole.

The Twins wrap up their three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles tonight.
