Mets' Pete Alonso, Tommy Hunter added to lengthy injured list

For a few hours, fans of the New York Mets were able to enjoy positive news as it pertains to injury updates.

That feeling didn't last through the start of Friday's game at the Miami Marlins.

The Mets confirmed on Friday that slugger Pete Alonso and right-handed pitcher Tommy Hunter have both been placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Wednesday. Alonso is dealing with a right hand sprain, while Hunter has lower back pain.

In corresponding roster moves, the Mets recalled right-hander Yennsy Diaz from Triple-A Syracuse and selected the contract for utility player Brandon Drury from Triple-A.

According to Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News, the Mets now have 16 players on the IL.

Alonso, most notably, missed Wednesday's loss at the Atlanta Braves because of what is now known to be a setback. He's batting .236 with six home runs and 19 RBIs this season.

One glimmer of hope is that ace Jacob deGrom is on pace to return from the IL and start Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies. He hasn't pitched for the big league club since May 9 due to right side tightness.
