Mets' Jed Lowrie to miss Opening Day because of sore knee

Jed Lowrie's name on an injured list is a sight all-too-familiar to fans of the New York Mets.

On Monday, the club confirmed that the infielder is back on the injured list due to left knee discomfort. He will be sidelined when the Mets open the 60-game regular season against the division rival Atlanta Braves on Friday.

Lowrie joined the Mets in January 2019, but he's been more a spectator than an active player during most of his stint with the organization. Knee problems affected him during his first spring training with the organization, and individuals such as David Capobianco of Amazin Avenue speculated that the Mets were hiding information as Lowrie remained away from the club through the start of September.

In total, Lowrie completed seven official at-bats and ended the campaign hitless. The 36-year-old is once again an injury enigma ahead of a pandemic-shortened season that will be unlike any other.
