Mets Activate Dennis Santana, Option Joey Lucchesi
USA TODAY Sports

WASHINGTON - The Mets made a few roster moves ahead of their split doubleheader with the Nationals on Mother's Day.

New York has called up reliever Dennis Santana and optioned Saturday's starter Joey Lucchesi to Triple-A Syracuse.

In order to make room for Santana on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated pitcher Seth Elledge for assignment.

Lucchesi started yesterday and pitched the first two innings before the Mets-Nationals game was suspended due to rain.

Santana pitched out of the Mets' bullpen earlier in the year, compiling a 7.04 ERA in 7.2 innings. He was designated for assignment on April 15 and out righted to Syracuse on April 18.

Santana is now back in the Mets' 'pen, at least for now, in order to give the team a fresh arm during their doubleheader.
