New York Mets ace and two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom hasn't taken the bump since before the All-Star break and landed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right forearm tightness.
While Mike Puma of the New York Post caused panic among some fans by reporting deGrom returned to New York "for further evaluation and rehab" on the forearm, acting Mets general manager Zack Scott said on the "Big Time Baseball" podcast the 33-year-old right-hander may not be sidelined for long.
"It's pretty mild," Scott said of deGrom's latest setback, per SNY. "We're not too concerned long-term. When he'll be back, it could be pretty quick. It all depends on symptoms. He'll take a little time to rest it, let the inflammation kind of go down and then start ramping it up. I don't expect it to be a long IL stint, but it's always hard to predict these things because it's all symptom-based."
Manager Luis Rojas also offered an update on deGrom:

The Mets finish their series at the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday before returning to the Big Apple for an off day and a homestand that begins Friday, which could explain why deGrom flew back to New York. He is 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA and 0.55 WHIP on the season.
Meanwhile, Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated reported Monday the Mets may pursue Minnesota Twins pitcher Jose Berrios ahead of the July 30 trade deadline.
