Mariners Send A Fond Farewell To Adam Frazier

The Seattle Mariners traded for infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier before the 2020 campaign.

They expected him to be an All-Star, a status he reached in 2021 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Diego Padres.

That year, he slashed a cool .305/.368/.411 with a 113 wRC+.

However, he was a disaster in Seattle.

In 156 games and 602 trips to the plate, Frazier slashed .238/.301/.311 with a putrid 81 wRC+.

For reference, 100 is considered a league-average wRC+, an offensive stat that adjusts and evaluates performance relative to the league average.

It means Frazier produced 19 percent less than the average hitter, which is very bad.

With no on-base ability and no slugging, he was a complete liability all year for Seattle.

The Mariners bid farewell to him anyway, in a classy act.

A Huge Hit

Despite all this, Frazier had one of the biggest hits in recent franchise history.

With Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Toronto Blue Jays tied at 9-9 (after Toronto was up 8-1), Frazier proceeded to rip an RBI double to right field to drive in the 10-9 run.

The game ended with that same score and the Mariners had swept the Blue Jays in Toronto to advance to the Division Series in their first postseason appearance since 2001.

Even if his stint with the M’s was mostly bad, fans will remember him for that well-struck double that sent the franchise to the next round.

They fell to the Houston Astros there, but let their presence known.

Frazier will try his luck with another playoff hopeful, the Baltimore Orioles.

He will try to bounce back to 2021 levels.
