Legendary Rangers Manager Wants Astros Job
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros will have a new manager in 2024 for the first time in four seasons.

Dusty Baker retired as one of the most successful skippers in the franchise's history.

General manager Dana Brown will be tasked with finding a replacement that can continue to keep the Astros relevant to win World Series titles for years to come.

It will be Brown's first managerial search after he inherited Baker when he took over the GM role in January.

There are plenty of options on the market and within their own organization, but one legendary manager of their instate rivals seems to be attracted to the job.

According to Jason Bristol of KHOU 11 News Houston, ex-Texas Rangers head man, Ron Washington, is interested in becoming the next manager of Houston.

Washington is currently the third base coach of the Atlanta Braves, a position he's held since 2017.

He was the manager of the Rangers from 2007-2014, winning two AL West pennants, taking the team to two straight World Series and winning 90 games or more in five consecutive years.

He stepped down in 2014 due to personal reasons and finished with the most wins in Texas' history.

The 71-year-old has a connection to Brown from their time in the Braves organization together.

According to Bristol, it's unclear whether the Astros have mutual interest in Washington for this job.

The legendary manager will likely be a candidate when this search begins.

He is beloved by players in Atlanta and has been a huge part of the success they've had during the regular season and when they won the World Series in 2021.

Houston will have to figure out if they want to go down the veteran managerial path again or if they're looking to move into a different type of era.
