Indians add catcher Roberto Perez to injured list with sore shoulder

The 4-1 Cleveland Indians jumped out to one of the best starts of the pandemic-shortened MLB season, but they'll be without a key figure for the next 10 days.

As noted by the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ), Cleveland placed 31-year-old catcher Roberto Perez on the 10-day injured list after Perez hurt his throwing shoulder during Friday's season opener versus the Kansas City Royals.

While Perez attempted to play through the injury, he hasn't tallied a hit since Opening Day. He's batting .100 with six strikeouts.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona told reporters that Perez will undergo treatment at the team's Lake County (Class-A affiliate) facility and won't throw a baseball for at least seven days.

"Whether it's two days, three days, four days, whatever it ends up being when he can start to do some things with that arm, he'll have access to that," Francona said.

Perez won American League Gold Glove honors for the first time in 2019, and he ended the campaign with career highs in home runs (24), RBI (63), hits (93), SLG (.452) and OPS (.774).
