Former Red Sox All-Star's Market Reportedly Starting To Heat Up

One former Boston Red Sox All-Star could find his next opportunity soon.

The free agent market has moved slowly and although Spring Training already has started, there are a plethora of players still available who could have a solid impact at the big league level.

The people that have been talked about the most and still are available are players like Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, and J.D. Martinez. There still are plenty of other players available, though.

One hurler who still is looking for his next opportunity and reportedly is starting to see his market finally heat up is former Red Sox All-Star Matt Barnes, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.

"Former Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes has had his market heat up and might join a team in camp soon," Cotillo said. "Have heard Washington linked to him and veteran relievers. Barnes had an injury-shortened season with Miami last year after being DFA, traded."

Barnes was an important part of the Red Sox's bullpen for nine seasons before being designated for assignment and traded to the Miami Marlins ahead of the 2023 campaign. The righty became Boston's closer and was an All-Star in 2021 but has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play since.

He has shown flashes but hasn't been able to have consistent success over the last few seasons. It wouldn't be surprising to see him land a minor league deal soon but if he's healthy ultimately make a team's big league club.

Hopefully, he can find his next opportunity soon and get back on track.
