Former Blue Jay Devon Travis is joining the GCL Braves coaching staff

Devon Travis was actually a really good player. From 2015 to 2018, he slashed .274/.314/.437/.751 with 78 doubles, four triples, 34 home runs, 153 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases. Travis was a rookie sensation in Toronto, but injury struck — a trend that ultimately ended his career.

During Travis’ rookie year, he was out for over five months because of shoulder surgery. He suffered multiple injuries before a meniscus tear was the final straw, and he was released by the Blue Jays in 2018. Travis missed roughly 52% of the games he could have possibly played in over a four year span. However, there is a connection to Alex Anthopoulos, and you can’t deny the talent that he had. Travis won’t be playing in an emergency role like Jeff Mathis possibly could, but I think he will be immensely valuable as a developmental coach.
