Elvis Luciano is first player born in 21st century to play in MLB game
Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Elvis Luciano is just 19 years old. On Sunday, he came into the game against Detroit in the top of the seventh inning, becoming the first MLB player who was born in the 21st century to appear in a regular-season game.

Luciano got Tigers right fielder Nicholas Castellanos to fly out to center, ending the inning. He remained in the game for the eighth inning as Toronto attempted to come back from a 3-0 deficit.

Toronto picked Luciano up with the No. 9 overall pick of the Rule 5 Draft. Before he made an actual appearance in a game, Luciano had already made history as the first player born in the 21st century to make it onto an MLB roster.

It appears he has a bright future ahead of him.
