Dodgers rally, edge Twins in 12th on bases-loaded walk

Trayce Thompson worked a bases-loaded walk in the 12th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers recovered in the late innings following multiple blown leads to extend their winning streak to six games with a 9-8 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Monday.

Max Muncy hit two home runs and Will Smith also went deep as the Dodgers won despite failing to hold an early four-run lead and a three-run advantage in the eighth. They also blew a one-run lead in the ninth before rallying from a one-run deficit in the 10th.

Muncy had his second three-hit game of the season and his fourth multi-homer game in just over one month. Right-hander Phil Bickford (1-1) pitched the final three innings to earn the victory, giving up one unearned run on a career-high 48 pitches.

Christian Vazquez had three hits and a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning for the Twins. Jorge Polanco hit a home run among his own three hits for Minnesota, while Trevor Larnach hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to tie the score at 6-6.

Minnesota also tied the game at 7-7 in the ninth inning on an RBI double from Byron Buxton following an RBI double from David Peralta that had put Los Angeles up by a run in the bottom of the eighth.

After the Twins went ahead 8-7 in the 10th on Vazquez's RBI walk, the Dodgers tied it on an RBI single from J.D. Martinez.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the 12th on intentional walks to Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy after Chris Taylor started the inning at second base as the automatic runner. Thompson, whose last hit was April 17, worked the count full against Jorge Lopez (1-1) before earning the walk.

Twins starter Pablo Lopez failed to complete five innings for the first time in nine starts, giving up five runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings with no walks and four strikeouts. Dodgers starter Noah Syndergaard gave up two runs over four innings after lasting one inning in his previous outing because of a right index finger injury.

Minnesota dropped to 4-3 in a stretch of nine consecutive games against National League clubs.
