Diamondbacks’ Bullpen Struggles Continue in Fifth Straight Loss
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Diamondbacks’ bullpen nightmare got even scarier tonight as they suffered their fifth consecutive loss, even with ace Zac Gallen on the mound, falling to the Colorado Rockies 7-5.

Despite Gallen striking out 10 batters, his high pitch count forced an early exit after just five innings, during which he allowed three earned runs from eight hits with a total of 108 pitches.

After Gallen departed, the Rockies seized the lead with a three-run burst in the 6th inning against reliever Scott McGough, who struggled with control, walking two and allowing a couple of hits before being pulled prior to completing the inning.

At one point, the D-backs held a 4-1 lead.

Echoing the pattern of the past week, Arizona’s offense faltered in the later stages, their only significant production being a four-run effort in the 4th inning. Currently, Joc Pederson is the lone Diamondback batting over .300.

However, at least tonight, they did have a golden opportunity to capitalize on some walks to break their losing streak. Colorado issued three walks in the 9th inning, but the D-backs stranded the bases loaded to end the game.

Arizona will be back in action tomorrow at 5:40 PM.
